Howard Gantman
Founder and Principal
Howard Gantman is the founder of Gantman Communications, a consulting firm that guides advocacy-focused businesses and nonprofit organizations and individual leaders to build support for their legislative and policy initiatives, brands and reputations.
Gantman is an accomplished communications, media and government affairs strategist with more than two decades of experience ranging from being Vice President for Global Strategic Communications at the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) to being Staff Director of the Congressional Joint Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, responsible for managing the largest Inauguration in American history.
During Gantman’s eight years at the MPAA, he held a variety of senior roles, including overseeing litigation communications, managing the global communications program, serving as primary office spokesperson, guiding executive speech writing and handling daily crisis communications. He helped redefine the MPAA’s communications strategy and branding to better position the organization at a time of great challenges that included the growth of the major internet platforms and digital streaming.
He also represented the MPAA for four years as a Board Member and chair of the Communications Committee at the Copyright Alliance, where he helped guide the development of the organization’s blogger and social media amplification programs.
At the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, Gantman oversaw the committee responsible for federal elections, campaign finance, ethics reform and Senate rules and regulations. He also led efforts to revise Senate regulations to allow Member office use of YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites.
As Senator Feinstein’s Communications Director for nine years, Gantman managed a daily crisis communications program while working closely with the Senator and senior policy staff on a wide range of major initiatives ranging from energy regulation and curbing global warming to patent reform, internet privacy and gun violence prevention.
